Defibrillator installed in RRC Clubhouse.

With thanks to Ryde Harriers RRC now has a Defibrillator installed in the Clubhouse at Appley. The unit is situated in the downstairs hall area - beneath the Safety notice board.

SAFE ROWING AND LAND TRAINING DURING COVID-19.

Please see below six documents that detail the plans the Club has put in place to allow limited Rowing from the Folly boathouse and Land Training from our Appley Park Clubhouse during the Covid-19 Restrictions. These are in line with current Government restrictions and advice from British Rowing.

If you would like to Row from the Folly or train at the Clubhouse please read these documents before booking an outing and email the Club Captain(grdre@tiscali.co.uk) to say you agree and will adhere to the conditions. You should be aware that by agreeing, you waive your right to liability cover you may expect from the club. You should also understand that this agreement can be revoked without notice and agree not to challenge the decision.

This is a live document and open to changes as the restrictions from the Government are eased.

Although the Government Covid-19 Restrictions have now been relaxed significantly the Club has taken the decesion to leave these key documents in place on the Web Site for the time being - in case there is a return to any restrictions.

CLUB SAFETY POLICY.

Ryde Rowing Club has a zero tolerance for anyone being harmed as a result of our members’ participation in the sport.

We believe that harm is not an inevitable consequence of our activities and that incidents that cause harm can be avoided. We will strive to provide an environment in which the sport can be practiced safely and enjoyably by our members. We will guide and lead our members in a way that fulfils these aims.

We recognize that our members have primary responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. The Club, through its Officers and Committee, will encourage safe practice having due regard for the guidance provided by British Rowing in RowSafe.

The Club has safety rules that it expects its members to respect; these can be found on the Safety Notice Boards at the Appley Park Clubhouse at Ryde and the Boathouse at the Folly and can be downloaded from this page - scroll down.

Complying with these rules will help to prevent harm. The Club is also committed to learn from the incidents it becomes aware of and will share this information to help others in the sport to learn too. We are committed to make appropriate use of British Rowing’s Incident Reporting System.

Members are invited to refer any questions and concerns, relating to safety, to the Club’s Rowing Safety – Steve Draper or his deputy Steve Bull.

Ryde Rowing Club is affiliated to British Rowing and the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association and as such is obliged to follow the recommendations of their Safety guidance which includes the need to report all safety related incidents.

Ryde Rowing Club BR Club Safety Audits including the Club and Event Risk Assessments, Capsize Drill & Swim Test records and Life Jacket Service records are stored in the Clubs British Rowing Google Drive Folder that can be accessed here.

If you are involved in a Safety related incident while performing a club activity, either on land or on the water, you must immediately advise the Clubs Safety Adviser Steve Draper (contact details can be found at the top of this page). You should also complete a British Rowing Safety Incident report on line. This can be accessed here

British Rowing provide a number of Training Aids on Safety for anyone involved in rowing activity who wants to learn more about being safe.

Safety Basics Risk Assessment Module.

This course will help you to develop a basic understanding of safety in rowing.

Intermediate Risk Management.

This module will help you to understand risk and to produce your own Risk Management Plan for activities.

Advanced Risk Managements Module.

This module will help you to assess risk, which is one of the key roles of a Club and Event Rowing Safety Adviser.

It is recommended that all active members complete these modules.
